pcstel - get your facts straight and stop spreading the BS

QUALCOMM has essential patents for the WCDMA standard and has now licensed some or
all of its essential patents to more than 30 companies to manufacture WCDMA equipment.
Each licensed manufacturer has agreed to pay QUALCOMM the same royalty for WCDMA as
that licensed manufacturer is paying for other CDMA standards, including cdmaOne and
cdma2000. Some of the companies now licensed to manufacture WCDMA equipment include
Advantest, Agilent, Alps, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Glenayre Electronics, Handspring, Hitachi,
Hyundai, Kyocera, LG, Lucent, Matsushita, Maxon, Motorola, NEC, Nortel, OKI, Philips,
Samsung, Sanyo, Sharp, Sony, Tektronix, Toshiba, Willtech and other Japanese and Korean
licensees expected to be announced shortly.

But not Matsushita!! (Although they did sign a Modem Card License back in Jan. timeframe)

I'm curious....do you really believe that Matsushita will be paying royalties on modem cards and not on handsets? I would love to hear an explanation on how they could manage do to this since a handset and a modem card are only slighly different implementations of CDMA.

Anyway....a little research shows that Matsushita was licensed back in July '00.

Under these agreements, a licensee pays the same royalty rate to QUALCOMM for WCDMA and cdma2000 equipment as for cdmaOne infrastructure, phones, semiconductors and other equipment. Companies with licenses for WCDMA include Samsung, Lucent, Ericsson, Nortel, Hyundai, LG, Sony, Hitachi, ALPS, Matsushita, Maxon, OKI and Philips."

The modem card license wasnt announced until Jan. '01. Qualcomm doesnt always announce the licenses when they are actually signed (I have no idea why)....
