As for PALM, I only lightened up on a portion of my PALM holding pre-earnings (as I said I was going to) because it didn't even come close to the $20 minimum I had in mind (more or less my original cost basis). So I'm still holding on to around 75% of what I got in the spin off last July. Problem here is, what's the further downside? Maybe $5? $4? Then what, buy them back near the end of the year at $10 - $12+? For that $1-$2/share, I'm not willing to give up my PALM shares to the vultures who are waiting to pick them up for next to nothing, a la MSDW rape of LU shareholders from whom MSDW grabbed 90 million of their Agere share entitlement (at $6/share):siliconinvestor.com Those 90 million shares would have been distributed to LU shareholders in the final spin off later this year, now they will sit in the fat Wall Street cats pockets at MSDW and eventually make them even fatter. Just wait until this mugging of individual investors by the "big guys" ends, and see what kinds of "analyst upgrades" start flying around to get things moving up again, maybe as soon as the April Q1 earnings season. We're not there yet - my broker told me today that the daily number of margin calls they're sending out is seven times normal, and that squeezing of the small investor has to end before things can recover somewhat from this artificially depressed level. Longer term, I still think we're in for a flattish year, because there truly are some excess capacity, inventory and corporate debt problems to be worked through, which will take more than a few months. But I'm going to give PALM through the Q4 earnings report to see what they say going forward, plus I'll keep an eye on HAND and see how their sales are going - that will tell us if this is just the botched product transition affecting PALM, or if PDA sales industry-wide have slowed as Carl Y said and like cell phones already have. Good luck. David T.
