Well...the way i think it...and that may not be the way everyone else does, is this

It depends on the timeframe....

The losses I had in my current portfolio are losses....coz that cash is no longer available....

But the losses I had in my LT portfolio...which is really meant for my kiddies...or for my retirement...well, they don't mean much. Over thetime horizon they are averaged out...

Despite the crashes in the last century, if someone had put in a 1000 in stock market in 1950s, or 60s, or even 70s or 80s, they would be significantly better off today than they were then....

the only people who really messed up, were the ones who played with the bread money. Or those who don't have time on their side...

Am i wrong in my assumptions ?
