Exactly. So parts built for Alcatel's products aren't suitable for other buyers.

not-as-rich&not-so-famous -- you misunderstand the uniqueness of AMD Flash parts. AMD flash parts have characteristics that cannot be matched by other competitors, the chief one being that the number of "write cycles" which AMD parts can withstand is an order of magnitude or more higher than anything that any other producer has.
A large number of other designs use AMD Flash because of the very low access times (high speed). Intel, OTOH, concentrates on low cost per bit. It is not like AMD designs parts for each customer, but there are no replacement parts from other manufactures for a majority of AMD design wins. Therefore it is highly likely that whatever Alcatel didn't want, other buyers would take, but probably not at the full contract price. Capisce?
