I wonder how much revenue and margin those were providing and which of their purchases was developing that particular product. They just came out a couple of weeks ago and reiterated that optical would be $3-7B this year.knc

This sure is not good for the Optical growth outlook...wow, isn't this supposed to be the "fastest growning mkt"...face it... spending by telecom will decrease in 2nd 1/2...regardless of the technology....
Cisco-CSCO says growth of optical router not as fast as we would like (13 11/16)

Actually that news has been in the market for quite some time. This product came from the Monterey acquisition, and pretty much everyone who has followed the o-e-o switching space (the same space as the CoreDirector by Ciena, the SN 16000 by Sycamore, the Aurora by Tellium, etc.,) has known for months that Cisco was having problems in this space. Therefore I would be reluctant to make any sweeping generalizations about optical growth based on Cisco's failure to execute with this specific product. (That is not say there are no problems overall in the sector, but at least this one is Cisco-specific.)

Wrong. Core optical was not supposed to grow faster than metro. Metro is the hotspot.
