Yes, no President can take credit for individual operations. I believe that FDR's leadership was essential in pulling the country together, and getting it on a war footing quickly, so that overall we could bring the Nazis to their knees. I believe that our strategic bombing is what really slowed down the German industry, and prevented them from developing longer range missles, the A-bomb, and from getting their jets into production sooner.

We could have gone the same way as the Germans. Hitler did not really get the country into a war-footing production-wise until 1943. I think this difference was one of the keys to winning the war, on a macro level.

Of course, it was the fighting men who landed at Tarawa and Omaha that really won the war. All the material in the world won't do squat without someone willing to push it down the enemies throat.

To all my left friends, this might seem to be a rather, well, rightist statement. However, there are 'just' wars and 'unjust' wars; the trick is knowing which is which, and being on the right side. Hopefully, we'll be able to recognize...

<<I believe I mentioned the fact that HST was a democrat, but would bet dollars to doughnuts that he would be a Republican if he were in politics today. >>

He was a haberdasher at heart and anyone who has been in that occupation always develops a desire to drop The Bomb.
