Exactly. Some of those battleships were so slow, that our carriers could have been wiped out in the coming battles if they had come along. Also, that 'battleships vs carriers' argument was very much alive at the time; WWII pretty much settled it, but a good number of admirals would have advocated building a battleship fleet to attack Japan.

The issue of carriers versus battleships would not have come up if the powers that were had listened to Col. Billy Mitchell, instead of court martialing him.
