"What I wonder about is if there is and AXIA stepping equivalent available for Austin process."

I would guess that this depends upon whether the AXIA stepping is a relayout of the device layers or relayout of the metal interconnects. If it is a relayout of the metal interconnects, I would guess that there is no new stepping for Austin.

Re: I think Dan's $115 for Dresden Athlons is indeed very low.

Before you decide I've gone totally negative, don't forget the included assumption that those limited ASPs would be accompanied by a significant increase in unit sales and market share resulting in increased total revenue (from CPUs) during terrible market conditions. I really think that this is as much as we can reasonably hope for.

Regards,

Dan

Jozef:

"it would be an excellent news for AMD, since the demand for Athlons has been exceeding the demand for Duron, and also, 900 - 1.13 GHz Athlon would have have an ASP of some $80 to $90, vs. $50 or so for Duron."

Indeed...Nice thought!!!

Joe, Re: new stepping for Austin Athlons

IIRC AMD said on the last CC that at the end of Q1 virtually all Athlons would be coming from Dresden, so they probably don't bother with a new Athlon stepping in Austin. But I read that the new Durons apparently have also a new stepping. Older Durons could only go to 1 GHz with big cooling measures (even Tom couldn't exceed 1066 MHz with his Vapochill solution), the sweet spot seemed to be around 900 MHz. But those new Durons (ANCA code) can go up to 1200 MHz. So this leaves a lot of headroom and should make an 1 GHz Spitfire-Duron possible.
