Scum, That article covers the market in semiconductors only. What about all of the rest of the factors in the total picture of the economy? For one example, the manufacture of goods had bottomed out in March of 2000. That basic industry is quite often a "bell cow" for the rest of the market.

The economy was not great four weeks before the election. Jack Welch of GE said the economy was in recession last October and told Greenspan that. And economists agree that the slowdown started about a year ago - about the time the Clinton Bear Market began.

What you don't understand is that statistics lag reality.
