Even worse. It leaves Intel with the spot market. When spot prices are good, like last year, it's great. But most of the time it stinks. From a manufacturer point of view, that is.

Neil: That's interesting. So effectively what AMD has done is cut off a lot of the market INTC is wanting to move into, by agreeing with the big boys the 2 or 3 year contracts.

Well, the characteristics of Intel's StrataFlash is still very different from AMD's NOR flash. Likely, the market overlap isn't all that big.

AMD does appear to be pushing fairly hard with their UltraNAND, so this might actually be the major area where AMD and Intel Flash will compete (I can't be sure as I don't really know the characteristics of Intel's NAND Flash).
