I wouldn't put it that strongly, but there is a certain ambivalence. I have long been sympathetic to St. Anselm's "Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief."

James, I've been watching you deftly tip toe around this subject for some time now.

I'm not so sure that ten percent is generous. People deceive themselves and others on this. I recall reading of a study where they counted noses outside of churches and compared that with the number of people who, in surveys, said they attended regularly. Huge difference.


But many non-atheists don't go to church regularly Karen.

Actually, I was unclear in what I meant; sorry. I meant people who will actually fess up. There only ones we can count, really. I agree with what you say about the undercount; given the current atmosphere, a high percentage of atheists/agnostics are going to assume protective coloration- -even to themselves in many cases.

You know, it's strange to be on your side and have the right chewing my butt. Oh well.
