Evidently,a nuclear sub showed up at a Japanese port without giving the required 24-hour notice.

I definitely saw the story..the timing was remarkably bad. There was some advance notice given to the city but they had neglected for the first time since the treaty went into effect to give notice as the treaty required.

I'll believe that it was likely a simple screw-up. But between the fishing boat incident, the refusal of the Captain to make any sort of apology, the incidents [criminal] in Japan that are tied to American bases, one might have thought that there would have been double and triple checks to make sure everything was proper with the port call.

If you want a real energy crisis, then the scanario could be that the mid-east spins out of control, Israel let's go a couple of get even bombs and then it's all on the roulette wheel. Around it goes and where it stops no one knows.
