I don't know what they think they are going to gain, but they've made a grave blunder.

IMHO, China is testing Bush. They will gauge his reaction and factor that into their future plans. I agree they've made a grave blunder, as this incident is galvanizing support for the arms sale to Taiwan. Perhaps they believed the sale was going to happen anyway, in which case they wouldn't see much downside risk. However, I believe that their blatant failure to observe international law and custom is going to cost them, in terms of international relationships, more than they realize. BWDIK?

Maybe the cost of QCOM royalties has made them rethink their desire to join the WTO, and they're looking for a way out. <g>
