Ralph, ya know that the govmints always stand ready to amuse us. It's their mandate. But they're never so dumfounded as when they have to try to pretend that they're helping us, as with the Fat Cat ferries or this BC Health Guide that is supposed to reduce the strain on the hospitals.

We'll be a province of hypochondriacs if we all read it, the hospitals will be swamped. I've been reading up on heart attacks today...I'm starting to show some of the symptoms already and it's only the afternoon.

To do their part in helping us, I see that the now very busy post-Shawinigate federal government has come up with a perpetual motion tax and spend machine. They’re going to raise taxes on cigarettes and use the money to fight cigarette smuggling...now, that’s elegant.

And, Martin says they're just going to keep raising the tax until it works this time. Zeus, they'll have cigarettes right up there with cocaine if they're successful in this. General Revenue will be pleased.

Whatta ya say Marcos, time to quit smokin' yet? Nah, me neither, I've had better reasons to quit.

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette...
