Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based Neiman Marcus Group reported a 4.7 percent sales decline in March at stores open at least a year and said it expects fiscal third-quarter earnings to fall below a year earlier and short of Wall Street forecasts.

``March comparable revenues reflected what has become a very challenging retail environment,'' Co-Chief Executive Brian Knez said in a statement. ``Volatile financial markets during March exacerbated an already difficult comparison against double-digit revenue gains a year ago.''
