Brian,
I agree. They are teenage in the sense of being a 21st century world power. Their regime is only 53 years old. Ours is 225. So in this sense we are senior. All else you say is true. And even with the overthrow of these guys, new democratic leaders will still give you angst re: tibet, taiwan, mongolia etc. Almost all Chinese view these lands as chinese. Many also would include parts of Southeast asia, Russia et al also as part of china. We can hope for moderation and greater respect for human rights but if you get a revolt in one of these areas you will get Chechnya redux. So we have to be realistic too. mike

<< What????? China is ~5000 years old; we are about 200 years old.>>

China exists since 1949 as a continuous government. We are the second oldest continuous government around. I love telling my German and Italian friends that, and even more enjoy telling my French friends that they are adolescents! They somehow disagree.

Also, I'm impressed with the way W. is handling the China incident. He has not inflamed things despite their dumb provocation. In the long run, and I am a VLT investor, economic interests require cooperation from both sides. Especially since AMAT wants to build there, and I still want cheap electronics.
