IMO, focus on metro fiber networks. That's where the buildout is moving, to the edge now....ONI Systems and Ciena.

Voice over IP...Sonus Networks. Though Sonus's switches and soft switches cant deliver all the services yet that Nortel and Lucents layer 4&5 switches provide, they're coming up fast, and the cost savings are real. Voice over IP is what is hurting Nortel and Lucent's circuit-based switch business. I imagine all new voice infrastructure will be voice over IP.

Backbone routers...Juniper and Avici. Avici should be showing 4-digit percent growth. Their roll-out for AT&T has just commenced. If I remember correctly, Quest's newest backbone is all-Avici, too.

right, but we really, really need to find out who the main chip supplier is to the metro area fiber networks. Doesn't anyone know who it is? Does anyone work for ciena? Are they making their own chips?
