Not gold, but gold Eagles, not legal tender? I guess not. The Pandas in China are definitely legal tender, just not used as such.

If the feds really got their way, a man who spent $100 to take a woman out to dinner and then slept with her would have to report her services as income and she would have to report the dinner as income, and between the two of them they would pay the government $56 or so in taxes. That does not include social security or state taxes, and presupposes a 28% marginal tax bracket.

No, wait, I forgot. He could deduct the cost of the meal as business expenses. But his date would owe the govnernment $14 for her half of the meal. Depending on how much she ate or drank.
