If you do not want the columns to show which have the summation in them you can hide them and still use the data.

Highlight the column> right click> Hide.

From the data you showed I do not know of another way to sum. I am far from a spreadsheet expert but I have done exactly what you are want to do in a sheet and it worked well. I hid the column and it's all good. :)

Use the CONTIF function in Excel.
