i knew a kid in middle school; 'ventenberg.' he was of latvian descent. he was the first person who ever told me of stalin's killings. he said millions in latvia alone. one interesting thing is that we tend to blame stalin and hitler for the murders which occured during their reigns, yet in actuality, neither of them participated directly. instead it was their henchmen, and throughout history their excuse is almost without exception, 'i was only following orders.' so that's another interesting question; 'where does the buck stop?' in any event the cult of personality is certainly a terrible thing. andy
