Intel probed in Europe
Chip maker says cooperating with
ongoing European investigation
April 6, 2001: 6:05 a.m. ET

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Intel Corp. said Friday that it has been under
investigation by the European Union for months and is cooperating by providing
information on its business practices.

"We have been notified and have a request for information by the director
general for competition and as is our normal policy we are cooperating," said
Chuck Mulloy, a spokesman for Intel in Santa Clara, Calif.

Mulloy said that the inquiry has been going on for "a number of months." A
spokeswoman for the European Commission had no immediate comment.

The company settled charges with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission in 1999
and the FTC dropped an additional investigation about the firm's marketing
practices. Intel has also faced -- and won -- private suits by rivals challenging
its business practices.

Re. Giga'puters

Would someone on this thread kindly compile a short (or long) list of killer applications for the giga'puters thus I can convince someone that we need one too.

Thanks in advance.
