Sharck: From what I gather, the data shows increasing unemployment, especially in the manufacturing sector and creeping inflation (slight increase in hourly wages). This seems (IMO) to be the worst case scenario for the economy --the manufacturing jobs are the ones that pay middle America decent wages (versus the service sector) and the fear of inflation may hamper the Fed regarding aggressive interest rate cuts. In summary, the numbers raise the fear of "stagflation". The Dow and NASDAQ futures have declined after the data was released, in response to the concerns I've stated above.
