My take on the issue is the US is neither right or wrong. Yes, they were slightly wrong for being there in the first place, but it was International Airspace. I would prefer our national noses were kept more with-in our own borders.

That said, those small fighters were far more maneuverable than the massive 4 engine turbo prop. Was China fully interested in a lack of conflict with those fighters would never have been there in the first place either. After the accident(and I believe accident to be the correct term when both parties are both right & wrong) there remained one of the two (ARMED) fighter jets. It is easy to believe the only actual option allowed the pilot of the damaged US plane was being forced to land by the remaining fighter or ditch at sea outside current Rules of Engagement.

If a Texan doesn't believe he is greatly wrong (or at least more wrong)he will not apologize. Matters not how I even feel about it, if you, or I, or anyone else, or everyone else, agrees or not, it is just the way it is. It should also be noted, the first to admit when they are wrong is a true Texan.

It is often written we in the US must understand the culture of other lands & peoples. Guess there comes a time when this becomes a two way street and the people of other lands should also learn of the culture of Texans.

Should we also mention many sources are reporting the US plane was fired upon?
