I agree with this generalization. It reminds me of the competition among MBAs for who could get the best first year pay package. Intel usually lost to the consultants in those games. Anybody who looked past the first year ended up better off.

You just changed your original debate from "cash" to "salary and options."

Now you added options.

Even so, I'll repeat what I said, I believe Intel has the best large company comp plan in the industry. You cannot even find another large company's comp plan that can compete with Intel's overall comp plan, at the moment. (Though it wasn't always that way, back when the north had way better options than Intel in the early 90s.)

I think a fundamental reason why a company does well is when everyone is motivated through stock. Focusing on cash, seems short-term.
