But, if the countries are members of the UN, would you then approve of UN intervention, since that would be internal in the same way police coming into your house to protect you from abuse are internal?

While I'm probably on the same side of this debate that you are on, I must point out that the UN is not a world government. Its questionable that it has any more right to intervene that the US does acting unilaterally.
