Scumbria, you are welcome. I like to travel to poorer regions like Jamaica and Mexico for vacations (I must be a cheapskate), but one of the coolest parts about these low cost vacations is how nice the people are. People are great everywhere if you treat them with respect (which Americans often fail to do).

This format of communicating is fun, but it can bring out the worst in people. I am sure that most of the people I battle with would be great to meet and have a beer with. Problem is I have kind of a thin skin so when a laser attack comes in directly at one of my points or opinions it is too easy to lob a sarcastic dart right back. Makes it kind of fun, but easy to get carried away. I can only imagine the chaos if people attacked so frankly in a face to face situation. Lots of fisticuffs I would imagine. Not nearly as safe.

My wife is Russian and I have
learned how far removed Russians are from the monsters we were told about growing up.

Now I work largely with Chinese, and the same is true.

Most Chinese and most Russians aren't monsters. But all you need is a few in power and really bad things can happen.

Mr. Scumbria, Your point is well-taken, but why do you suppose it is that we see governments the world around whipping up their people to hate Americans? We put a tremendous amount of energy into making the world work, and we get this kind of thanks for it. As you suggest, many of their own people can't stomach what they do and come over here to become our citizens. We apologize when we are at fault, as we had to do when Clinton bombed the Chinese embassy in Kosovo. There's no point in apologizing for something we did not do.

<<I have been amazed to discover that they are also human beings. >> By the way, why were you amazed? What did you think they were before this revelation?

I spend most of my time working with foreigners, and I have been amazed to
discover that they are also human beings.

Gee, what an astounding realization on your part.
