Motorola delays equipping Scottish fab

WASHINGTON -- Motorola Inc.'s Semiconductor Products Sector has decided to hold off equipping a fab shell in Dunfermline, Scotland, which was acquired last year from Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. Ltd. (see April 20, 2000, story). Motorola is keeping the building empty while waiting for the chip market to improve.

Motorola had planned to install 0.15-micron process equipment in the wafer fab and move production from its nearby MOS-16 fab, which uses a 0.35-micron process. That plan has been placed on hold, however, due to Motorola's sharp cut in semiconductor capital spending, according to a spokesman for the Schaumburg, Ill., company.

Question: Exactly who is a " unique visitor"?

On the AMAT thread that could be someone who hasn't made a prediction about the bottom of the cycle' <gg>

As the market continued its slide I successfully migrated to a lower tax bracket. No more fear about capital gain taxes, stock splits, inheritance taxes, or about missing the next big thing in the market. I just hope that the trading range on AMAT and NVLS and LRCX does not drop another five points.
