A lengthy, but factual report from the San Jose Mercury News is referred to in my post # 204. The Mercury does depict Peace as a champion of the bill but only because Brulte couldn't get it passed in a Democrat controlled State Senate. The Republicans ruled the Assembly. Frankly, I think both parties had their pockets lined and I won't vote for any politician that was in office in 1996 irregardless of their party affiliation.

The situation has gone beyond partisan politics and I only address it in that light because so many Republicans are trying to spin it politically. Most Republicans I know in this state claim the energy crisis is only the result of "tree huggers" trying to keep power plants from being built. I am sure that there was some effect, but I am also told that the utes themselves were against building more generating plants.

I believe the situation is the result of free market greed with political backup.
