Yes.

It appears to me after watching our experience in foreign affairs since 1944 when I went into military service, we have graduated from postwar policies of compassionate oversight and aid to that of fear (regarding Soviet cold war aggression)and then on to obsequiousness (for some of us) - like we're guilty of being the only super power left. We're dammed if we do, and we're dammed if we don't.

So how much does it cost us to be really nice and apologize to everybody for being who we are since we saved the world only twice in one century. You can believe this. A few years ago while talking congenially to a young stranger in a foreign pub while drinking their beer, he made one remark about the wars that remains with me always. He said, "But you always come in late." Still we left a lot of crosses behind.

Is it true we don't have to fight with them or for them, if we trade with them? But the money has to hold out and some Americans have dollar interests all over the world now too.
We sell protection cheaply. So now we have citizens of the world with us. Some are in Tawain and some will be in China.
