In a short word yes. Their product line was initially called Story Server but it got a very bad reputation since it was hard to use, implement etc. I have not used it in over a year so they could have improved.

I think last year Vignette dropped the name Story Server. According to Forrester Research the best of breed solution in this area in the year 2000 was Allaire's Spectra now owned by Macromedia. Allaire however was late to the game in which the biggest 2 players were VIGN and BVSN. Just having a bad product however does not mean much (look at MSFT and ORCL in the 80's these were the worst products but today they rule and are the best products in their area.

So your guess is as good as mine as to who will win. But whoever wins will control the access to corporate web portals and it will be a big market. If I had to choose one then I would tend to favor VIGN since they have the most money.
