You're distorting things. There's nothing in my scenario about the slave asking for help. As far as I know, he didn't. If you just assume he wants help and intervene, you're imposing your values on him. Government sanctioned slavery doesn't happen in an instant. You have time to find out what he wants. With the jaywalker we have a life and death emergency and there's no way to ask him. It's reasonable to assume he wants to live.
