Rick, Wilder, PG, & whoever else cares. Update to the photo section. Pictures from my visit to Yosemite with my Nikon CoolPix 990, which I used when not cranking big routes.

I found the light difficult. No clouds to speak of, and sunrise and sunset light cut off by surrounding mountains meant that I had harsh midday light most of the time. The Vernal/Nevada Falls picture shows this. I dealt with this through technique, creativity, and technology (the photos of Yosemite Falls and Vernal/Nevada Falls have been adjusted for brightness and contrast, which helps some). There are the standard tourist angles you've all seen in a couple of these, but . . . The Merced River runs placidly through the level Valley, making it an excellent canvas. I think many photographers overlook this. And it softens the light. So my presentation of El Capitan, in particular, is different from everyone else's. My favorite use of the river as canvas is "Monet Reincarnated as a Trout Sees El Capitan from the Merced." Note that all of these photos (with the exception noted above) are unretouched except for trimming.

Hope y'all like 'em.
