The loudcloud article is a grim epiteth to the .com investment craze. It presents Marc Andressen as the by womder who helped ignite the investing boom way back when, in the form of the Netscape product and the co's very sucessful IPO, and then he is the witness to the end of the craze, with his recent Loudcloud ipo, which if you believe this article, almost did not even happen.

Much of the article is about the IPO roadshow (76 meetings in 16 days) and how many of the money managers they presented to were skeptical and a lot of them did not take any of the shares. On the some of the days they presented to money managers, the nasdaq was crashing with 3% or 4% drops per day.

The ipo did happen, at substantially reduced valuation from the initial plan. There wasn't much celebration at Loudcloud, just a collective sigh of relief.
