Indeed...funny thing is....when most European cities were being built....there likely was not the idea...."wow, this is going to look cool, quaint, and beautiful for hundreds of years from now"....rather, they were (for the most part) built around function......then, after WW2, there wasn't the money to start over (in some/many cases)....so just renovate the old instead.....in other words, in some part, the Europeans "lucked" into it <G> My European friends are loathe to admit this!
