It is clear that Dubya has almost zero knowledge of science and is simply listening to his ultra wrong wing friends. << Second, the Citizens of Concerned Scientists believe in the following: 1. Quit driving SUV's >> I saw nothing on their site that calls for a ban on SUVs, only a call to make them more efficient. Most responsible car makers are working to have hybrid SUVs on the road in 3 years. They will get about double the mileage, have half the emissions and better performance. How awful! << 2. Shift to solar power. >> Again, how awful that we should produce electricity without any pollution. That would make Greenpeace and liberals and other such bad people happy. We can't have that! BTW, we had a program, started under Carter, to have 10% of our electricity produced by solar and renewables by 2000. Reagan made sure that nonsense was stopped. Wouldn't it have been awful if the program succeeded? I'm sure that you are pleased. << 3. Stop funding missile defense system. >> I agree. It will lead to a new arms race. Do you expect other countries to do nothing while their weapons are made useless? It is unlikely that the system will work 100%. The countermeasure is to lob more missiles, including decoys. Has it occurred to you that some rogue nation might lob everything it has at before it believes it's weapons will be useless? This is not 1965. We have the biggest guns, and that is deterrent enough. << 4. Stop population growth. >> Most sensible people would agree with the concept of responsible population growth. << 5. Sign the nuclear test ban treaty. >> And why is that a bad idea? << 6. The United States should fully fund the U.N. >> Ted Turner is getting tired of picking up the bills. Why should we not pay our fair share? << On the one hand, you're willing to completely ignore over 17,000 american scientists (many of which have specific knowledge of climatology), because the site which has posted their signatures (might have been given a research grant by Texaco or Mobile Oil. >> That's Exxon/Mobile that funds the disinformation sites. Texaco is changing it's focus from an oil company to an energy company, and is heavily investing in hydrogen and other Earth friendly technologies as is Chevron who recently bought Texaco. Shell and British Petroleum are two others who are forward thinking about the environment. Progress towards a cleaner, more efficient cars and production of electricity is being made despite you, Dubya, and other backward thinking people that are standing in the way. BTW, it's Union of Concerned Scientists not Citizens of Concerned Scientists. They are funded by memberships and donations. If you know of any secret funding source, please post it. How many scientists that are on your side are Nobel Prize winners? Del
