Gee, you're sounding just like a right wing non-interventionist!

But I do need to cut you some slack, since you came up with the Amazing Vacation for me after so many years of searching. I found a copy at a used bookstore in Montana (thank you, internet!) and have ordered it. So I will at long last be reunited with this memory. I hope it's as good as my memory of it! But thanks VERY much for using your amazing memory for this!
