Inefficientcy has a profound effect on the level of growth and prosperity. On the other side is the governments funding of certain technologies and creating forces of effort and capitol that would not likely be formed in a the normal competitive economic environment. The needs of the military and space programs have created technologies that are the why of the technology lead of the US and in making the US the world leading economy. The space program of the sixties lead to integrated circuits and miniturization years and possibly decades sooner. The billions spent on research in the creation and control of high powered lasers has also lead to lasers that now can emit enough energy to propagate terabytes of information for hundreds of kilometers. The availability of this technology was made possible again years ahead of the normal development time. The entire internet is the child of the arpanet that was created to connect military facilities and universities together to share information in the development of military technology. Why has SGI created the lego system of Supercomputers? biz.yahoo.com biz.yahoo.com How small will a 4 procesor brick become and what does that smarts at that size mean in weaponry and in the commercial world. I could go on and on. The federal budget is 20% of the gross domestic product and that has a substantial negative effect on the economy. The effect is negative because of the current mix of the application of the money. Democrats favor a more negative mix and all with half a brain favor less mix. tom watson tosiwmee
