Sigh.

You still haven't answered my question about what you would do. There some really lousy stuff going on all over the world. What would you suggest our government do about it?

Well, Christopher, my god is not situational ethics, and I have core beliefs that are unwavering.

That series is not of like entities, though I know you believe it is.

I guess you might say that the simplest articulation (way oversimplified, of course) of my most core belief is that suffering is not good. Another way of putting it that is still over-simplified but fleshes it out a little is... the greatest good for the greatest number, over a longish haul, is a concept that speaks to my core person, which core includes the part above my neck.

I will decline to engage in a discussion of Bentham and related topics! It's been done by smarter people than us. Bentham for example. Well, than me, anyway.

Nat Hentoff is, as you know, an atheist.

When theists look around and notice that belief in, oh, for example, Allah, doesn't make one good, they might also notice that non-theism doesn't make one bad. When that day arrives, i'm hoping we'll have a better chance that everyone will see that there is no One to ask to be good to us but ourselves and one another.
