Jim,

I think the guidance on Palomino will stay the same as they said during the last Q CC: Sampling now, volume release next quarter. <g> Or Q3 CC, with slight difference that they didn't say anything about sampling, only that the release was going to happen the next quarter.

It is starting to remind me of NSM/Cyrix MXi, that was in this suspended animation state for about 2 years.

Joe

which means we are yet to see 2 more speed grades of
T-bird. 1.4 and 1.466

I see a very strong possibility that 1.4 (200 and 266 versions... 1466 is a little pushed IMO) could be released a month and a half after march 22, which could be April 30th or May 7th (you know Monday...) I'd say May 14th at worst. I also expect mobile versions to be released in the same time frame (KT266 is already purchasable)

When AMD has scalability headroom, they usually quickly spend it.

Jim: It's clear. They don't have it. Desktop or Laptop.

I disagree. I think it's very likely that they have desktop Palomino and "could" launch it. The problem is (or was, anyway) that bin splits were very low and the die size apparently larger than the current crop of Tbirds.

Why do I believe this is a likely scenario?

- Most of the Palominos demonstrated by AMD at various trade shows have been 900 to 1000 MHz.

- There have been rumors for quite a while that OEMs and chipset makers could get all the Palomino samples they wanted. This was confirmed by an analyst report posted on this thread quite recently (I'm sorry, I cannot remember which one - it was one of those "AMD is smart for delaying Palomino" write-ups, if that narrows it down), that said exactly that.

- AMD isn't too smart when it comes to pricing (of course, one could argue - and I would - that their lack of advertising is to blame) and believes that a Palomino chip would bring exactly the same as a Tbird of same operating frequency. I think they are right in this. They have demonstrated absolutely no ability to differentiate their product offerings (other than frequency).
