I remember in 1990 I was in the middle of a totally awful divorce which was financially wiping me out. That was also one of the highest periods in my life of consumer spending.

Remembering how I felt then, I'd guess it's a complex brew: denial, hope, faith, fuck-it, retail therapy, and remorse for not having spent the money before, instead of watching it evaporate.

I'm also certain it won't last.
