Taking another look at the log Nasdaq chart, it appears that it has fallen well below the historical trend line. It looks plausible that it could recover to the 3500 area in a year or two.

its only intuition but it appears to me you're using average and symmetrical thinking about the naz. i think the naz will be asymmetric in its recovery just as it was asymmetric in its rise and fall. we'll know in the fullness of time.
remember its already had a 15% gain in one day this year. sadly, it lost that and more shortly thereafter.
