Anti- Judaism is an objection to the Jewish religion, presumed to be tainted with an axe to grind. Anti- semitism is contempt or hatred of the Jews as an ethnic group or race, so that assimilation or even conversion mean little to the true anti- semite. Christianity was anti- Jewish, considering itself to have succeeded Judaism, and also specifically hostile to the Pharisaic form of Judaism, which was the basis of rabbinical Judaism. It was not anti- semitic, given that Christ and the Apostles were Jewish, the original church was Jewish, and it was always hoped that the Jewish people would finally be persuaded to accept Christ.
