From the Mod AMD thread:

investor.cnet.com

The biggest chipmaker will offer a 1.7-gigahertz Pentium 4 processor, the most powerful version yet, for $352 by the end of April. The chip was earlier scheduled to be released on May 27 for $637, said the report by the technology news Web site. Higher- speed chips can process more data.
''We have a 1.7 gigahertz version coming up, but I can't talk about pricing or the date,'' said Evia Shum, an Intel spokeswoman in Hong Kong. The fastest Pentium 4 on the market today is a 1.5 gigahertz chip that sells for $637, she said.

So one day your top of line chip is worth $637 and the next day.....poof....It's worth $352. I guess that's one reason no body seems to be buying those P4s.

Meanwhile...from Peter Luc on the AMD front:

Athlon 1.33 PC for 900$ (2000 DM)
I am impressed. Vobis, one of the largest German computer vendors, offers an 1.33 GHz Athlon PC with 128 MB DDR DRAM, 40 GB harddisc, GeForce 2 MX and DVD drive for 2000 DM (= 900$).

Isn't it amazing how the consumer benefits when there is competition??
