I may eat the whole half gallon this afternoon. I just finished my taxes and feel a need to indulge myself.

I had never paid estimated taxes before. I always just had a little extra withheld from my salary to cover interest and dividends. This time last year I took a some profits off the top of my portfolio (should have cashed in the whole thing) so I sent Uncle Sam a check for $25K figuring that was enough to cover the taxes on the capital gains. Then in December I took some tax loses so I'm ending up with a refund of $10K. Well, TurboTax has the audacity to tell me that, despite the refund, I still have to pay a penalty for underpayment of estimated taxes. Can you believe it? What ever happened to tax simplification? It's a trivial amount, but so annoying. Grrrr! So I've had two dishes of ice cream so far. Good thing it's not your super-fat tiramisu.
