>>There was talk during the 1990 bear market that Compaq would not recover. This right before Windows 3.0.
Of course Dell was traded in 1990, and they were the discount upstart. Cisco went public then. What the hell was a router, anyway?

Well, the 1990/91 was a V recovery from recession and this years will not be... That said, this bear market has lasted much, much longer so I guess you could say that if we were in a V recovery, the NASDAQ would be 1000 pts higher already.

1990's banking issues were serious structual issues that everyone was very worried about would drag us into a severe recession. The market launched and the economy V'd. Conditions seem similar today as overcapacity/excess inventory and telecom structural issues are pretty worrisome. There is very little actual demand out there right now and from a bottom-up perspective, things are not good. Will the market launch and then the economy V? hmmm. tough one.

Nevertheless, I am finding excellent value out there, especially in the $500mm - $4b cap arena. I have never seen companies with such solid long-term prospects sell at 1x revs and 2x cash.
