I don't have time right now to come up with some of the facts you asked for about California....but "the letter" from "The Californians" was meant to be a joke....

Really do not bother. I was teasing. I recall back in the mid 1970s there was a moratorium on natural gas here. I can't real cause of the shortage or if was a "real" shortage. I do know I could not have natural gas put in the first house I had built. At that time, the people from Texas and Oklahoma were saying they did not want to spare any more natural gas. The response from here was somethng like do you want a car to drive, wheat for bread, beef, etc.

The real point is each geographic area contributes to the total country's economy in one way or another. One of the jobs of the President in my opinion, is to help alleviate problems when there is a way or to help find a way using the financial resources of the country as a whole.

I believe quite strongly that California has a real problem at the moment. The cause, a lot of which is attributed to the method of de regulation, is no longer relevant. What is relevant is how to get by the short term problem and then of course focus on correcting the problems long term.

Our country's strong relative economic position comes from many factors. It comes from our technology, our having fertile growing areas in various parts of the counry, heavy industry in others, having our own natural resources for energy although not enough for the amount we currently are using, etc. It is team work that makes the country strong.

I am done with my "lechture." <G>
