Aetna profit to fall short of forecasts as medical costs rise

New York, April 10 (BridgeNews) - Aetna Inc. (AET), the largest health care

E*Trade Group breaks even despite plunge in trading activity

New York, April 10 (BridgeNews) - E*Trade Group (ET), the United States'

Wall Street forecasts. ( Story .20898 )

Merrill says examining job cuts due to weak market environment

London, April 10 (BridgeNews) - Merrill Lynch & Co. (MER), the largest U.S.

similar actions in recent weeks. The New York-based brokerage giant said it will
examine business-by-business ways to slash expenses, including money spent on
employees. Merrill would not confirm how many workers it seeks to cut, but one

Roadway Express profits decline as economy slows

New York, April 10 (BridgeNews) - Earnings at Roadway Express Inc. (ROAD) fell
in the first quarter as the slowing economy caused the trucking company's
customers to ship fewer goods. The Akron, Ohio-based company said operating

the $17.3 million, or 55 cents, reported a year earlier. ( Story .5971 )

It appears there will be no joy tomorrow. I noticed MOT's semi sales were way way off. The NAZ will get pounded coming out of the gate tomorrow morning.

BTW-- A little trivia, more commonly called BS! The USPS contracts with cpq & ibm began 4/9. By noon 4/10 2000 machines were ordered by career postal employees. No info on how many by indiv company. An employee I know ordered an IBM last night and was able to sub a 17" monitor for $60-- S&H was $45 and expected delivery in 10 days. No info on cpq orders yet.

A little news blurb-- meaningless but interesting..
B: Hasta La Vista to AltaVista? As CMGI's cash pile runs down, the company is
likely to put its search engine and portal group up for sale.

Apr 06, 2001 (The Industry Standard via COMTEX) -- Search engine and portal
group AltaVista is being tipped as the next big online business to be put up for
sale. Its parent, CMGI, was once a leading Internet investment company, but is
now attempting to drag itself out of a financial hole. Speculation is rife among
company insiders and investment bankers that CMGI is ready to accept an offer
for AltaVista or a cash injection from a strategic partner.

CMGI could certainly use the cash. Its Nasdaq-listed stock has dropped in value
by 98 percent since the start of last year, and analysts are questioning whether
the business can reach break-even before it runs out of funds. AltaVista is also
looking for a handout - the downturn in online advertising spending has pushed
profitability well beyond next year, and the group is changing its business
model to concentrate more on the corporate market for search engines.
