The Fair Disclosure regulation(FD) from the SEC, which went into effect last Fall, has created an situation where we may well be seeing earnings announcements from techland over the next few weeks, that appear very much like tonight's Motorola report. In other words, much worse than expected, even factoring in the most recent downward revisions to guidance. If so, it will take a herculean effort to levitate share prices, even with the big selloffs we have already seen. How many Big Tech firms will announce that thier most recent FD guidance did not incorporate the most recent new declines in business activity? And missing already lowered forecasts? Not to be pessimistic or bearish, but this FD situation seems to me to be creating the prospect of even further, significant disappointments from Big Tech these next few weeks. Maybe that's why were getting the short squeezes recently on no news, or questionable "good news" like Dell and Amazon. Need to get the newbie shorts cleaned out, before actual earnings releases, so the pros can reset? I took the opportunity, before work this AM to reshort MOT at 12.55. I just believed that Galvin and company would continue to do even worse than their most recent downward revisions. I'll continue to look for overpriced, short term overbought shorting opportunities. Some of these techs are "evergreen" shorts, right? The semis seems to be most frequently manipulated, e.g. big downgrades by SSB/Joseph et al. just Monday; followed by big SOX run up today, pre-MOT eps. James
