AMD demoed a 1.53 GHz Palomino at CeBIT and also at Comdex in November IIRC. Edit: Max already pointed that out.

But I still agree that Palomino could have bin split problems. It's probably not that difficult to find a processor that can do 1.53 GHz if you overclock it a little bit and use some extensive air cooling. That's what overclockers are already doing with 1 GHz Thunderbirds right now. Anyway, Palomino has some production problems. Otherwise we would have already seen Athlon notebooks last year. Probably we will never be 100% certain (unless there are more significant delays) what these problems really were.
