Here are all the NME's approved so far this year. At this rate, we would have one of the lower totals for a year, although I think there tend to be more approvals towards year end. fda.gov Not a biotech approval among the bunch, unless you want to count Allergan. Peter

Personally, I have mixed feelings about Cramer and TSC. On biotech specifically, Cramer himself undoubtedly sucks. However, I fairly often find interesting stuff on TSC and so I glance at it pretty regularly. It's a different view into the world than you get other places and I've not infrequently picked up a useful nugget there that I've not seen elsewhere I agree with Peter’s assessment of TSC. (I am a subscriber, though.) It’s very much a parson’s egg sort of situation – good in spots. Much of the chit chat in “Columnist Conversation” is of a level that would be laughed off SI. But Harrison’s hour-by-hour read of the market is insightful for the VERY short termer. Gary Smith (the chart guy) has saved me a lot of money in the past few months by simply insisting that you don’t go long when the trend is down – the old saw “in a down market be short or be out”. Simplistic, but it helped me avoid some mistakes and to catch up on my reading. Herb G. may sometimes allow himself to be used as a mouthpiece for the shorts, but that info is precious. As for Cramer, the worst that can be said is that he weathervanes, that he must be a poisonous guy to work with and that the cult of the personality from some of the contributors is off-putting. He certainly missed biotech – I e-mailed him in Jan 2000 saying that there was a little revolution going on that TSC was missing – no reply. On the other hand he did indeed recommend taking money off the table last March, and has been skeptical of tech since February or so. In my view he’s simply an interesting and often infuriating read to glance over in order to get to the knowledgeable contributors.
